In The Zone
When we are ‘in the zone’, we are fully emerged in an activity, and we are in a state of optimal performance and heightened focus. It can be described as a state of flow where we feel fully engaged and energized while performing a task. In this state, distractions tend to fade and we enter an space of enhanced productivity.
The Zone can be described as the space when our brain activity is midway between the Dream State (Theta brain activity) and the more present and Conscious State (Alpha brain activity). These two brain states overlap at 8Hz, or 480Bpm.
Mental States
There are five types of brain waves. From Delta starting in the region of 0.3 to 4Hz, all the way to Gamma, starting at 30Hz. Each brain wave is associated with a different state of mind.
- Delta Waves (0.3-4Hz / 18-240Bpm): Associated with deep sleep and healing processes.
- Theta Waves (4-8Hz / 240-480Bpm): Occur during relaxation, daydreaming, and REM sleep.
- Alpha Waves (8-13Hz / 480-780Bpm): Found in relaxed and calm states. Creativity and flow.
- Beta Waves (13-30Hz / 780-1800Bpm): Associated with active thinking and alertness.
- Gamma Waves (30Hz+ / 1800Bpm+): Linked to heightened perception.
